Softball Drops Season-Opener 4-3, 9-5 at Millersville

Millersville, PA- The PhilaU softball squad (0-2) dropped a doubleheader in their season-opener at Millersville on Monday afternoon.  The Lady Rams fell 4-3 in game one, and 9-5 in the second game of the day.

The Lady Rams went up 2-0 in the second inning as freshman Sara Romano (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) scored on a wild pitch and freshman Kayla Czuprynski (Buffalo, NY/ West Seneca) had an RBI double.  The Marauders came back in the fifth scoring three runs- two of them unearned.

The game came down to the seventh and final inning as senior Lindsay White (Fogelsville, PA/ Northwestern Lehigh)  tripled to right field and Czuprynski came up big again with an RBI single down the right side to make it 3-3, but MC scored on an error by the PhilaU first baseman to make the final MC 4, PhilaU 3.   

In game one, sophomore Randi Wozniak (Newtown Sq., PA/ Marple Newtown) took the loss in 2.2 innings pitched, while junior hurler Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) got three strikeouts in 4.0 innings for the Lady Rams.  Both gave up four hits.

In the second game, PhilaU opened the game up in the first with three runs off four hits- including an RBI double from Romano to take a 3-0 lead.

MC responded with three runs of their own off two hits, and added a third run to tie the game 3-3 in the third inning on a sacrifice fly.  The Marauders added to their lead with a three-run double in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go ahead 6-3.

The Lady Rams would not quit in the seventh as freshman Ali Glaser (Easton, PA/ Notre Dame) smacked an RBI single and junior Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham) added an RBI double- but it was not enough as PhilaU fell 9-5.  PhilaU rookie hurler Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) took the loss in five innings pitched, striking out four and giving up eight hits. 

PhilaU returns to action on Thursday, March 12 at Lincoln University for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
