Men's Tennis Advances to CACC Team Championship in 5-0 Win

Philadelphia, PA- The #1 seeded Philadelphia University men's tennis team (17-7, 10-0 CACC) advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Tournament Championship match in a 5-0 victory over #4 Bloomfield College on Tuesday afternoon.  The Rams took just 50 minutes to seal the victory and did not give up a single game in the process.

All three doubles teams breezed to 8-0 wins in this order- the #2 team of sophomores Tom McAvoy (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and Seppi Hutter (Bellevue, WA/ Bellevue) defeated BC's Perez/Wattley, followed by the freshmen #1 team of Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/ Gainesville) and Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY/ Holy Cross HS) over DeCastro/Gibbs and #3 sophomore Mario Bermeo (Tannersville, PA/ Notre Dame HS) and freshman Eric Guerrero (Lawrence, MA/ Central Catholic) over Patel/McCall.

The Rams needed just two more points to secure the win and they did just that- getting victories in singles from #2 Sgouros and #4 McAvoy.  PhilaU advances to the CACC Team Championship on Thursday (4/23) vs. #2 seed the University of the Sciences, held at Chestnut Hill College at 3 p.m.
