Philadelphia, PA- The #1 seeded Philadelphia
University men's tennis team (17-7, 10-0 CACC) advanced to the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Tournament
Championship match in a 5-0 victory over #4 Bloomfield College on
Tuesday afternoon. The Rams took just 50 minutes to seal the
victory and did not give up a single game in the process.
All three doubles teams breezed to 8-0 wins in this order- the
#2 team of sophomores Tom McAvoy (Phoenixville,
PA/ Phoenixville) and Seppi Hutter (Bellevue, WA/
Bellevue) defeated BC's Perez/Wattley, followed by the freshmen #1
team of Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/
Gainesville) and Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY/
Holy Cross HS) over DeCastro/Gibbs and #3 sophomore Mario
Bermeo (Tannersville, PA/ Notre Dame HS) and freshman
Eric Guerrero (Lawrence, MA/ Central Catholic)
over Patel/McCall.
The Rams needed just two more points to secure the win and they
did just that- getting victories in singles from #2 Sgouros and #4
McAvoy. PhilaU advances to the CACC Team Championship on
Thursday (4/23) vs. #2 seed the University of the Sciences, held at
Chestnut Hill College at 3 p.m.
