Softball Clinches CACC Playoff Spot with Sweep at Nyack

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (21-18, 12-10 CACC) pulled off a CACC sweep at Nyack College (3-35, 2-23 CACC) on Saturday afternoon winning 3-0 in game one and 9-0 in the second game on a mercy rule.  The wins secure PhilaU their first-ever CACC playoff appearance , as the team is now in a three-way tie for fifth-place with Wilmington and Holy Family.  Seeds will be determined later in the week and action begins on Thursday (3/30). 

Freshman pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) went all 12 innings for the Lady Rams, compiling 20 strikeouts in both games and allowing just one hit per contest.

Senior infielder Lindsay White (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh H.S.) went 3-6 at the plate on the day, and junior first baseman Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) went 3-8, hitting for the cycle (single, double, triple and homerun).

Junior infielder Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/Wellington Mepham H.S) had the game-winning RBI double.

The team plays their final regular-season games tomorrow (4/26) at Goldey-Beacom College at 11:30 a.m.
