Lakewood, NJ- The Philadelphia University Lady
Rams (25-21, 13-11 CACC) won the first game of the day 7-0 over the
#7 east-regionally ranked and tournament #1 seeded Dominican
College Chargers (39-14, 22-2 CACC) but fell 5-1 to Bloomfield
College to be eliminated from the CACC Softball
Tournament.
Freshman catcher Katie Renner (Berryville, VA/
Brunswick) blasted a three-run shot in the top of the third inning
to give the Lady Rams a 3-0 lead and junior outfielder
Kristyn Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville)
added her first round-bagger of the year with a two-run homer in
the top of the fourth to give PhilaU a 5-0 advantage.
PhilaU junior infielder Maggie Desmond
(Bayport, NY/ St. John the Baptist) added a solo shot in the top of
the fifth and junior third baseman Kristin
Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham) singled in
junior outfielder Jen Richard (Millstone Twp., NJ/
Allentown) to bring in the Lady Ram's final run of the game and
clinch the 7-0 shutout win.
Freshman pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/
Easton) had eight strikeouts in seven complete innings, while DC's
Katrina Pistilli took the loss.
In the second game the #6 Lady Rams faced #3 seeded Bloomfield
for the second time in the Tournament, but the Deacons took a 3-0
lead after three innings on three hits and two PhilaU errors.
The Lady Rams broke their silence in the top of the fifth inning
as sophomore outfielder Katie Desmond (Bayport,
NY/ St. John the Baptist) got on with a ground rule double and
scored on an error by the BC second baseman to make it 3-1.
BC added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth-the first on a
botched run-down play and then on an RBI double to take a
lead 5-1 they would hold on to for the win.
Freshman pitcher Amber Beauchemin (Galloway,
NJ/ Absegami) went 1.2 innings, while sophomore hurler
Randi Wozniak (Newtown Sq., PA/ Newtown Marple)
went 4.1 innings for PhilaU.
