PhilaU Takes 12-3 and 5-4 Wins Over STAC

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (6-8, 0-4 CACC) picked up two wins over visiting St. Thomas Aquinas (5-9, 0-2 ECC) Sunday. The Rams closed the first contest early after scoring their 12th run in the fifth inning, winning 12-3. The second match saw extra innings where the Rams pulled out a 5-4 win.

Leading the way offensively for the Rams was junior second baseman Danielle Parisi who went 4-7 with a triple and a double driving in four RBIs across the two contests.  

In the first match, PhilaU saw six players cross the plate off five hits in the second inning. Senior outfielder Jen Richard hit a two-RBI single followed by a two-RBI double off Parisi. The Rams kept the momentum going in their fourth inning appearance at bat scoring three more. Rookie outfielder Devin Griglik doubled to right field scoring rookie shortstop Samantha Riabko who singled earlier.

The maroon and grey saw more competition from STAC in game two. PhilaU pulled ahead early in the second inning with a triple by Parisi who later scored off a RBI by rookie infielder Meaghan Lewis. With the game tied at 3-3 in the fifth, STAC pulled ahead with a home run by Clausen. PhilaU's Riabko answered in the seventh with an RBI single, scoring the pinch runner, sophomore pitcher Alexandra Hultberg. PhilaU claimed the game's winning run in the eighth off a wild pitch.

Two PhilaU pitchers picked up wins in the double header. Freshman hurler Ally Vrcek (1-1) took the first game with two strikeouts. On the mound for PhilaU in the second matchup was junior pitcher Ali Schmidt (4-5) who notched 10 strikeouts while also nabbing four in the beginning of the first contest.  

The Rams travel next to Wilmington University for a CACC double-header on Tuesday (3/29) at 3:00 p.m.
