Box Score Waterbury, CT- Philadelphia University men's tennis team (16-5, 5-1 CACC) closed out the regular season for 2010-11 winning their seventh straight match as they defeated Post University (4-10, 2-5 CACC) in an 8-1 battle. Junior Manoli Sgouros and senior Seppi Hutter each held their opponents scoreless in singles.
PhilaU claimed five of the six singles matchups.
Sophomore Kyle Burke went into his second singles set in the #1 slot after a 6-0 win. Post's Rodriguez made substantial efforts but Burke held on for the 6-4 win, claiming the point for PhilaU. Junior Eric Guerrero took each of the singles sets at 6-1.
It was all PhilaU in the doubles as each pairing shorted their opponents. Burke and Sgouros along with Hutter and junior Ryan Christopher each claimed the matchup at 8-1. Freshman Keith Lutz along with his partner Guerrero ended the set with a final of 8-2.
The Rams await their schedule for the 2011 CACC Men's Tennis Championship series which is set to begin Tuesday (4/19) and culminate at the CACC Championship matchup at Chestnut Hill College on Thursday (4/21). Last year, CACC 'Player of the Year' Adrian Torroella-Cruz (as a sophomore) battled to two CACC titles, winning both the singles title and then the doubles championship with his partner Sgouros.
