Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (15-18, 9-11 CACC) took the loss in game one, 5-2, against visiting Georgian Court University (23-19, 15-5 CACC) but clinched game two, 6-4. The big shot for the Rams came in the bottom of the first of game two with a two-run homer off freshman utility Meaghan Lewis.
Game one remained quiet with no hits leading into the third inning. GCU's Garofalo slugged one over the fence to make it a one run game. PhilaU would find more trouble as Hull sent another one out of the park for a two-run homer, bringing the score to 3-0. PhilaU got on the board with an RBI off the bat of junior outfielder Allison Glaser who singled to bring Lewis home from second. The Rams would make one last ditch effort in the bottom of the seventh as sophomore first baseman Nicole Singel drove in rookie pitcher Ally Vrcek from second. The last out would be had with two PhilaU runners stranded.
Game one ended at 5-2 with Vrcek taking the loss and Sansevera claiming the win for GCU.
Game two would see the Rams leading on the board for the entire contest. With two outs, Lewis swung for the fences and brought herself and junior catcher Katie Renner across home plate. More noise from PhilaU's bats would be heard in the third as Lewis again claimed an RBI, this time bringing in senior outfielder Jen Richard from second base. The designated player, junior Danielle Parisi, then set out for a hit of her own, scoring Lewis off a single.
The pairing of Lewis and Parisi would produce another RBI in the fifth. After sophomore utility Alexandra Hultberg scored on a GCU wild pitch, Parisi sent a shot through the right side to score Lewis from third.
Game two ended in favor of the Rams, 6-4. On the mound for PhilaU was junior hurler Ali Schmidt who improves her record to 12-8 for the season.
The next showing for Rams softball will be Friday (4/29) as they set to play a CACC double-header against Post University at home starting at 2:30 p.m.
