Softball's Devin Griglik Leads Diamond Princesses to 1-1 Senior Day Split

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (16-19, 10-12 CACC) split a conference doubleheader against the Post University Eagles (22-21, 14-10 CACC) on Friday afternoon.  PhilaU took game one 6-4 in the ninth inning, and fell 5-2 in the nightcap.  PhilaU senior center-fielder Jen Richard was honored in a pregame ceremony. 

PhilaU rookie left-fielder Devin Griglik won the first game in dramatic fashion on a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Earlier in the first contest, PhilaU struck first in the third inning on a fielder's choice RBI.  Leading 1-0 in the fourth, the Rams knocked in two more runs to take a 3-0 lead with a two-RBI double from freshman Samantha Riabko.  In the sixth, Post returned the favor with two runs on three hits, including a two-RBI double from Stephanie DeMartino to trail 3-2.  Post tied it in the top of the seventh 3-3 on a PhilaU throwing error to send it into extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and third and one out, Griglik smacked her second collegiate homer to win the game 6-4 for the Rams.  On the rubber, junior pitcher Ali Schmidt got the win in 3.2 innings, while freshman Ally Vrcek secured a no decision after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs.  Post's Ashley Cummings took the loss.

In the second game, Post's Amy Mantha ripped a homer over the leftfield fence in the fourth followed by an RBI double from Kim Bentson to give the Eagles a 2-0 edge.

In the fifth the Eagles added three more runs on three hits including an RBI double from Mantha to take a 5-0 lead.  In the bottom of five, Griglik scored after reaching on an error to get the Rams on the board and a Griglik sacrifice fly to right-field scored sophomore shortstop Kacie DeMaio in the sixth to have the Rams trailing 5-2.  Schmidt took the loss for the Rams, while Joanna Rice picked up the victory for Post.

PhilaU travels to Nyack College tomorrow (4/30) for a 12 p.m. doubleheader in their next competition.
