Softball Finishes 2011 with Two Losses at Concordia

Bronxville, NY- Needing one win against the CACC top-seeded Concordia College Clippers (25-12, 20-6 CACC) to continue into the postseason, the Philadelphia University softball team (18-21, 12-14 CACC) came up just short in two losses on the road on Tuesday afternoon.   The Rams were held scoreless in a 2-0 game one loss, and fell 3-2 in eight innings in the nightcap.

Junior pitcher Ali Schmidt took both losses in the final games of the 2011 season, finishing with a 14-12 record.  She had five strikeouts on the day.

In the first contest, the Rams were held scoreless and eeked out just three hits.  CC scored a run with a solo homer in the fourth and added another in the fifth on a PhilaU fielding error to hang on for a 2-0 win.  CC pitcher Alexa Rosella took the win for the Clippers.

In the second game, PhilaU freshman infielder Meaghan Lewis had both PhilaU RBIs, as she went 2-3 at the plate including a run-scoring double.  CC took an early 2-0 lead in the contest in the first inning, but PhilaU chipped away as they scored a run in the third and then tied it up 2-2 in the fifth.  Schmidt came in relief in the seventh and held the Clippers scoreless to go into extra innings, but CC knocked in an earned run in the eighth to sneak out a 3-2 win.  PhilaU rookie hurler Ally Vrcek went 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs in her no decision performance.  CC's Rachel Cannata picked up the win.
