Lady Rams' bats come alive in CACC doubleheader sweep of Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University softball team pounded out 14 hits to help itself get back on track with a doubleheader sweep of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Chestnut Hill on Friday. The game scores were 6-5 and 9-0.

Philadelphia (4-14, 2-2 CACC) got on the board in the second inning with a pair of runs. First baseman Kacie DeMaio had a RBI single and center fielder Allison Glaser, who went 2-for-3, recorded a sacrifice fly.

Right fielder Samantha Riabko added a run in the third inning with a RBI single, one of her two hits in the game.

The Griffins (0-6, 0-4 CACC) responded with a three-run bottom of the third to tie the score. Second baseman Brittany Hoban drove in one run with a base hit.

Philadelphia got those three runs back in the fourth. Pitcher Nicole Troisi helped her own cause with a RBI fielder's choice. Shortstop Stephanie Martin followed up with a RBI single. Left fielder Emma Haley drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.

Troisi earned her third win of the year after scattering five hits and striking out four in a complete-game effort. Chestnut Hill's Mandi Rush took the loss. She surrendered six runs, two earned, on seven hits.

The Lady Rams got off to a strong start in the night cap with a four-run first inning. Third baseman Andrea Schell had the big hit in the frame with a two-run ground-rule double.

DeMaio padded the advantage in the third inning by driving in two runs on a two-out single to right field. Catcher Meaghan Lewis connected for her second home run of the season in the fourth in make the score 7-0.

Glaser brought the mercy rule into effect in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run double to right field that increased the gap to 9-0.

Samantha Abromavage was the beneficiary of the run support and turned in a fine effort in the circle. She allowed just three hits and fanned two in five innings.

DeMaio had two of Philadelphia's seven hits in the second game.

Philadelphia travels to Concordia (N.Y.) for a CACC doubleheader against the Clippers on Saturday, March 24 at noon.
