Glaser lifts Lady Rams to doubleheader split with visiting Concordia (N.Y.)

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Center fielder Allison Glaser's three-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning gave the Philadelphia University softball team a 4-2 win in game two of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference  (CACC) doubleheader with Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon. The Clippers took the first game, 8-7.

The Lady Rams (5-12, 3-3 CACC) trailed 2-1 going into the fourth. Catcher Kacie DeMaio reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a single by the next hitter shortstop Stephanie Martin. Left fielder Emma Haley drew a two-out walk to set-up Glaser. Glaser singled through the right side, and combined with an overrun in the outfield, allowed Philadelphia to clear the bases.

Samantha Abromavage was strong in the pitcher for the second straight game to earn her second win of the season. She struck out seven, while allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits.

The Clippers (7-8, 4-4 CACC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI double by catcher Laura Brezovsky.

Philadelphia tied the score in the third when Haley came home from third on an error on a ball hit by third baseman Andrea Schell.  Concordia regained the lead in the fourth on a single by first baseman Jenna Stuber.

Haley went 3-for-3 for the Lady Rams, who pounded out nine hits. Abromavage helped her out cause with two hits.

Left fielder Victoria Pisciotta went 2-for-4 for Concorida. Maria DeMartino was the losing pitcher. She struck out one in six innings.

In the first game, Philadelphia took a 4-1 lead by scoring three times in the bottom of the second. First baseman Margo DeBarardinis had a RBI single, the first of her two hits, and Glaser knocked in two runs with a double.

Concordia cut the gap to 4-3 after getting RBI singles from Pisciotta and third baseman Nicole Spadaro. The Clippers plated two more runs in the fourth to grab a 5-4 lead.

Lady Rams' catcher Meaghan Lewis drove a ball over the scoreboard in left-center field in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at five. It was her third homer of the season.  DeBerardinis' second hit of the game, a RBI double, gave Philadelphia a 6-5 in the sixth.

Concordia was down to its final out when it scored three times to take the lead. Stueber walked with the bases-loaded and eventual winning pitcher Amanda Ramirez recorded a two-run single.

Philadelphia's Katie Renner had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.

Ramirez went the distance and fanned one batter in the win. Nicole Troisi took the loss despite striking out seven Concordia batters. Both pitchers allowed 10 hits.

Spadaro and shortstop Angela D'Amico had two hits each for the Clippers. Philadelphia second baseman Danielle Parisi and Lewis also recorded two hits.

Philadelphia next takes the field on Tuesday, March 27 with a trip to University City to face the University of the Sciences in a CACC doubleheader. First pitch is 3 p.m.
