Rams go 1-1 in rare doubleheader day

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team found itself in a rare situation on Sunday, playing a pair of matches in a single day. The Rams opened the day with a 9-0 win over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Bloomfield and finished with a 9-0 to Queens (N.Y.) in a non-conference match.

The Rams (6-9, 3-0 CACC) made quick work of the Deacons (0-7, 0-5 CACC) in the morning match. The tandems on Adrian Torroella-Cruz and Manoli Sgouros, and Ryan Christopher and Kyle Burke were 8-0 winners. Nail Rachidi and Eric Guerrero won the No. 3 match, 8-1.

In singles action, Torroella-Cruz, Burke, Christopher and Guerrero were all victorious by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Rachidi defeated Terry Gibbs in the No. 6 flight 6-1, 6-0, while Sgouros was a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 against Ceran Messam.

In the afternoon against #24 Queens (7-2), Torroella-Cruz put up a strong fight before falling to Attila Toth in the No. 1 singles flight, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Burke made it tough for Andre Pellegrino in the No. 3 match. Eventually Pellegrino won the match, 6-2, 6-2.

Philadelphia heads to Cabrini for a non-conference match Wednesday, April 4 at 4 p.m.
