Lady Rams drop doubleheader to Bloomfield

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University softball team suffered a pair of setbacks to Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The score to both games was 9-3.

 

In game one Philadelphia (5-20, 3-9 CACC) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a RBI double by right fielder Samantha Riabko to plate catcher Meaghan Lewis.

 

The Deacons (17-12, 4-6 CACC) fought back with three runs in the fourth and five in the sixth to take a 9-1 advantage.

 

The Lady Rams got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI base hit by third baseman Katie Renner and run-producing groundout by pinch hitter Emma Haley.

 

Left fielder Stephanie Martin led the Philadelphia six-hit attack with a pair of hits.

 

Left fielder Alexandria Smith paced the Deacons with a 3-for-5 effort, scoring twice and driving in one run. Shortstop Angie Yoshizu and second baseman Samantha Dugan both recorded two hits.

 

Lindsey Ciresa was the winning pitcher after giving up just one run on three hits in five innings and striking out one. Nicole Troisi took the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned, on seven hits in five innings. She fanned one.

 

Bloomfield took a 4-0 lead in the third inning of game two. The big hit in the inning was a two-run single by Smith.

 

Martin got Philadelphia on the board in the bottom of the third with a double to score catcher Kacie DeMaio, who tripled to start the frame off.

 

The Deacons' lead grew to 6-1 after getting a two-run double from catcher Ashton Corley in the fourth and a RBI double by first baseman Tracey Stern one inning later.

 

In the bottom of the fifth Martin bought home the Lady Rams' second run with a two-out single.

 

Philadelphia's final run came on an error in the bottom of the seventh.

 

DeMaio finished the game with two hits and two runs scored.

 

Smith, Corley, Stern and center fielder Daliana Perez all had two hits for the Deacons.

 

Smith earned the win by tossing five innings of relief. She struck out five, while allowing three runs on six hits. Samantha Abromavage took the defeat after surrendering seven runs on 10 hits and struck out three.

 

Philadelphia's home stand continues Thursday, April 5 with a doubleheader against Wilmington (Del.) at 2:30 p.m.
