Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University softball team pounded out 23 hits as it swept Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon, 11-3 and 7-3.
In the first contest, Philadelphia (8-21, 6-10 CACC) recorded 11 hits, included three-run homers by right fielder Samantha Riabko and pitcher Nicole Troisi. Riabko's round-tripper came in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 8-3. Troisi's blast to right came two innings later with one out and ended the game because of the eight-run rule.
Left fielder Alexandera Hultberg, third baseman Katie Renner and Troisi all finished the game with two hits. Troisi drove in four runs.
Pitcher Chelsea Macaluso had a two-hit game for the Warriors (3-27, 2-14 CACC), including a two-run double in the first inning.
Troisi fanned four hitters and allowed three runs on four hits to earn her fourth win of the year. Macaluso also struck out four, but gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings.
Second baseman Meaghan Lewis' RBI groundout and catcher Kacie DeMaio's RBI single tied the game at two in the first. One inning later, Troisi and Hultberg had RBI singles and a sacrifice fly by center fielder Stephanie Martin made the score 5-2.
The Lady Rams offense put together a 12-hit attack in the nightcap, which included a 3-for-4 game from Lewis. Pitcher Samantha Abromavage helped her own cause with a 2-fo-3 effort at the plate with three RBI, while shortstop Andrea Schell went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs. Renner and DeMaio also had two hits.
In the circle, Abromavage was the winning pitcher after going 6.1 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on eight hits and struck out two. Troisi came on to get out of trouble and record the final two outs and earn her second save.
Down 2-1 in the third, the Lady Rams rallied by getting back-to-back singles from Lewis and DeMaio. With two outs in the frame Abromavage brought both runners home with a double to center and put Philadelphia in front 3-2.
After allowing an unearned run that tied the game at three, the Lady Rams retook the lead at 5-3 by scoring on an error and an Abromavage single. Schell provided two additional insurance runs with a two-run double to right center.
Macaluso had four of Nyack's eight hits and the team's lone RBI, which came in the third inning. Shortstop Lauren Sweet added two hits.
Kia Jelley took the complete game loss. She struck out two.
Philadelphia, currently on a three-game winning streak, heads to Georgian Court University for a CACC doubleheader Wednesday, April 11 starting at 3 p.m.
