Softball goes 1-1 on second day of spring break trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Philadelphia University softball team earned a split of its two games during the second day of its spring break trip Tuesday afternoon. Philadelphia fell to Waldorf 7-3 in the opener and came back to knock off Daniel Webster 11-1 in six innings.

Against Daniel Webster, freshman pitcher Samantha Corey (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) earned her first collegiate victory with a complete-game effort. Sophomore third baseman Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) hit a grand slam for her first home run of 2013.

In the game one setback, freshman Emilia Cantrell (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) connected for her first collegiate home run, a solo blast.

Philadelphia (4-6) returns to action on Wednesday, March 13 with a 9 a.m. game against Gettysburg and an 11 a.m. start against Juniata.
