PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball team pounded out 14 hits as it defeated visiting Post 9-0 in six innings in game one of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) twinbill Sunday afternoon. The Eagles took the second game, 12-8 in nine innings.

Junior second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) opened the scoring in game one with a two-out solo home run. Lewis finished the game 2-for-3.

Philadelphia (8-8, 1-1 CACC) tacked on a pair of runs in the second on a double by freshman designated player Emilia Cantrell (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks E.) and a ground out off the bat of freshman left fielder Renee Kakareka (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg).

In fifth, the Rams extended the cushion to 6-0 with RBI singles from sophomore third baseman Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) and sophomore starting pitcher Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), and a freshman catcher Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) sacrifice fly.

Schell's second hit of the game, a double to center field, brought home Philadelphia's final three runs.

Abromavage gave the Rams a strong six innings of work as she scattered just five hits and struck out two. At the plate, she finished the game 2-for-3.

Junior center fielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.) had a team-high three hits, while freshman right fielder Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) turned in a 2-for-3 performance.

Johanna Rice took the loss as she surrendered six runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings.

In the nightcap, the Rams held a 6-2 lead going into the top of the seventh inning when Post (5-7, 1-1 CACC) plated five runs. Samantha Esque drove in the first run with a base hit. With two outs, Lianna May and Christina Urdis delivered two-run singles to put the Eagles in the lead.

With Philadelphia down to its final out in the bottom of the frame, Riabko came through with a double to center that plated Lewis, who singled at-bat earlier, to tie the score and send the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, Post brought 11 hitters to the plate in the ninth and scored six times. Kimberly Yano, Jackie Bonamassa, Rebecca Erb, and Udris all had a RBI during the inning.

The Rams got two runs back on a two-hit triple hit by Lewis, who was 3-of-3 which included a RBI single in the fifth.

Burrell was 2-for-4 in the game with three RBIs. She recorded a two-run double in the sixth.
