Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball team was swept by visiting Bloomsburg in a non-conference doubleheader, 9-0 and 3-0, Sunday afternoon.
In game one, Philadelphia (10-12) recorded four hits, two of them coming off of the bat from sophomore left fielder Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach). Junior second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and junior center fielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.) each had one hit.
Mandi Black paced the Huskies (12-4) with a two-run double in the second, a RBI single in the fourth, and a RBI triple in the sixth. Kayla McHale, Erika Yanora, and Chrissy Belko contributed two hits a piece.
Cait Paine was the winning pitcher as she fanned nine batters, and walked none, over the six innings. Freshman pitcher Samantha Corey (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) took the loss after giving up four runs—two earned—on seven hits in four innings.
Sophomore third baseman Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) came up with two of Philadelphia's six hits in the second contest. Sophomore starting pitcher Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), freshman designated player Renee Karakera (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg), Haley and Lewis were all 1-for-3.
Chrissy Belko had a RBI double in the fourth to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead. Yanora added two insurance runs in the seventh with a base hit to left field.
Caitlin O'Connor scattered five hits, while striking out six, over 5.1 innings to get the win. Paine came in to pitch the final 1.2 innings, including getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, to get the save.
Abromavage took the loss after allowing one run on five hits in four innings. She struck out one.
Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play when it hosts the University of the Sciences in a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
