Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball team scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and knock off visiting West Chester, 9-8, in game one of its non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Rams came back to take the second game, 15-3 in five innings.

Trailing 8-6, junior second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) started the rally with her first home run of the season, a solo blast to dead center field with one out, to bring the Rams (1-3) within one. Down to the team's final out Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) came through with a RBI single through the left side of the infield to plate junior centerfielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.), who reached base on an error, and tie the game at eight.

Freshman catcher Emilia Cantrell (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East), the next hitter, smacked a ground ball that the Golden Rams' second baseman couldn't handle and allowed freshman pinch runner Valerie Tully (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex Reg.) to score the game-winning run.

Lewis finished the game with three of Philadelphia's nine hits and two RBIs. Riabko was 1-for-3 at the plate and delivered a three-run blast to center field, her first of the year, in the bottom of the fifth to give the Rams a 6-5 lead.

The Golden Rams took the lead with a three-run top of the seventh inning. Kelly Anderson kicked off the scoring with a one-out single to center field that brought in a pair of runs to put West Chester ahead 7-6. Two batters later, Jillian Murray tacked on another run with a base hit.

Freshman pitcher Renee Kakareka (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) entered the game at that point, retired the only batter she faced on a fly out to right, and earned the win.

Kim Murl and Anderson each had two hits for West Chester, who recorded eight in the game.

In game two, the Golden Rams (5-3) broke a one-all tie as they sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of the third and scored 10 times on 11 hits.  Anderson had two plate appearances in the frame and drove in four runs, three on a two-out homer to left. Murl contributed a two-RBI single.

West Chester added four more runs, on one hit, in the top of the fifth.

Freshman first baseman Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) provided Philadelphia's highlight in the nightcap with her first career home run, a solo shot to left field, in the fourth inning. Sophomore third baseman Andrea Schell () had a RBI groundout in the fifth.

Philadelphia visits Chestnut Hill for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m.
