PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball has won four games in a row after picking up two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins over visiting Goldey-Beacom, 7-3 and 10-2 in five innings, Tuesday afternoon.

The sweep improves Philadelphia's overall record to 17-23 and its CACC mark to 9-11. Goldey-Beacom is now 9-25 overall and 5-15 in the conference.

With one out in the second inning of game one, freshman first baseman Emilia Cantrell (Pipersville, Pa./C.B. East) gave Philadelphia a 4-0 with a grand slam that cleared the right field fence. It was her third home run of the season.

Sophomore second baseman Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) opened the third inning with a double, and was followed by a double from sophomore pitcher Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) to score Schell. After a single by senior catcher Kacie DeMaio (Highland, N.Y./Highland) moved Abromavage to third, freshman left fielder Renee Kakareka (Schaumburg, Ill./Schuamburg) brought her home with a fielder's choice to make the score 6-0.

The Lightning cut the Rams' lead in half with three runs, including a solo home run by Alivia Schoff, in the fourth.

Philadelphia got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on a Kakareka ground out.

Cantrell and Abromavage finished the game with two hits each for the Rams, who had nine in the game. Seven different players had a hit for the Lightning.

Abromavage fanned two over seven innings to earn the win, while Ashley Antosh took the loss.

In game two, the first eight Philadelphia hitters reached base safely in the opening frame as the Rams jumped out to a 6-0 advantage. Junior center fielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.) and freshman pitcher Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) drove in two runs each. Sophomore left fielder Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) and Kakareka added RBI singles.

A wild pitch that allowed Cantrell to score from third and a two-run double by Smith during the third allowed the Rams increase its lead to 9-0.

After Asia Ellis hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, freshman catcher Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) drove in the eventual game-ending run with a single to plate Haley in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough), Riabko, and Smith had two hits each in the win.

In the pitching circle, Smith allowed just two hits while striking out three in five innings to get the victory. Courtney Dolson was the losing pitcher.
