Softball swept by Holy Family, 7-0 and 3-2

NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Philadelphia University softball team suffered a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader sweep at the hands of host Holy Family, 7-0 and 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at Helen Randle Park.

Philadelphia is now 19-27 overall and 9-15 in the CACC. Holy Family improves to 22-20 overall and 16-8 against the conference.

Seven different Rams had one hit in the first game, including a double by sophomore second baseman Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees).

Alexis Daubert got Holy Family on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an infield single to plate AnnMarie Dalton.

A pair of RBI doubles in the third, and two RBI doubles and a run-producing single in the fifth extended the cushion to 6-0.

Erin Corrado drove in the final run with a fielder's choice in the home half of the sixth.

Sarah Chilutti threw six innings of four-hit relief to earn the win. Freshman pitcher Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) fanned four in a complete-game loss.

In game two, it was Philadelphia that drew first blood in the top of the second on a Schell double that plated junior center fielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.), who singled to open the inning and went to second on a Smith bunt single.

Sophomore left fielder Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) doubled the margin to 2-0 in the fourth with a RBI groundout. Schell scored on the play.

Holy Family scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the score at two.

Corrado won the game for the Tigers in the last of the seventh with a two-out single to score Kelsi Bundi from third.

Freshman first baseman Emilia Cantrell (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Schell each had two of Philadelphia's seven hits.

Kristy Tomlinson went 2-for-2 with a RBI for the Tigers.

Chilutti picked up her second win of the day with three innings of scoreless relief. Sophomore pitcher Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) took the loss as she struck out three in 6.2 innings.

Philadelphia travels to Bloomfield to wrap up the regular season with a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
