CALDWELL, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team capped off the regular season with an 8-1 win over Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon.
The Rams are now 12-3 overall and 5-3 in the CACC. Philadelphia will host Holy Family in the opening round of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 21 on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
Caldwell is 4-7 overall, 2-6 against the CACC.
Philadelphia took a 2-1 lead after doubles with 8-0 wins by the No. 2 team of Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) and Anna Kudriavtceva (Yekaterinburg, Russia/Grammar School No. 13) and the No. 3 tandem of Jala Hamada (Giza, Egpyt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) and Anna Slomowitz (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley).
Julia Arruda (Valinhos, Brazil/Anglo Coc Valinhos) picked up her 10th singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rebecca Ryan in No. 1 singles. Kudriavtceva claimed the No. 2 singles match against Emily Slater by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Chung improved her singles record to 13-1, 9-1 at No. 3 singles, after taking out Gwynne Aiden 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 flight. Hamada also posted her 13th victory with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Sara Riccardi at No. 4.
At No. 5 singles, Sylvia Bennicelli (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) defeated Komudi Thirunagaru 6-0, 6-3. Magill Kurts (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) ended the match with an 8-0 win over Chante Bethell in a battle of No. 6 players.
