PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 non-conference victory against visiting Cabrini Wednesday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
Philadelphia improves to 11-3, while Cabrini drops to 10-4.
The Rams' No. 2 doubles team of Olivia Amato (Hartford, Conn./Cheshire) and Jala Hamada (Giza, Egypt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) and the No. 3 duo of Sylvia Bennicelli (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and Carly Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Twp.) got Philadelphia out to a 2-0 lead with 8-1 victories.
Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) and Anna Kudriavtceva (Yekarterinburg, Russia/Grammar School No. 13) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Tori Yeich and Terra McHenry in a battle of No. 1s.
Chung and Hamada got singles started by each earning their 12th win of the season. Chung was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Samantha Trumbo in the No. 2 flight, while Hamada took the No. 3 flight against Yeich 6-0, 6-1.
In the No. 1 match, Kudriavtceva, in her first match in the top spot, knocked off McHenry 6-1, 6-3. Magill Kurts (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) improved to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Elena Conway in the No. 5 flight.
Bennicelli won the No. 4 match by a 6-0, 6-2 score against Nicole Broccolino. Mariana Sampaio (Brusque, Brazil/Colegio Consul Carlos Renauz) finished the sweep as she defeated Maggie Javitt in the No. 6 match, 6-4, 6-1.
