Men's tennis starts spring season with 8-1 win over Millersville

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team opened its spring season on a winning note with an 8-1 triumph over visiting Millersville Saturday evening at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center.

Philadelphia evens its overall record at 3-3 with the victory, while Millersville dips to 1-3.

The No. 2 doubles team of senior Ayman Barakat and sophomore Chris Casamassima earned Philadelphia's first point with an 8-3 win over Christian Boyer and Tucker Mertz.

In a battle of No. 1 teams, Philadelphia junior Nail Rachidi and sophomore Houston Ward defeated Dylan Ryan and Kevin Tran 8-2.

Sophomore Dylan Bhaerman and senior Long Vo completed the doubles sweep for the Rams with an 8-4 win against Niko Mucci and Pearce Clay in the No. 3 flight.

Barakat opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mertz in the No. 1 singles match. Ward secured the Rams' victory by taking out Tran in No. 2 singles action 6-1, 6-2.

Casamassima took the No. 3 flight by a 6-3, 6-2 score against Ryan. Vo was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Boyer in the No. 5 flight. Rachidi earned the team's final point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Clary at No. 4 singles.

Philadelphia returns to action with a non-conference match against Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, Feb. 28
