Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) became the third player in Philadelphia University softball history to reach 150 hits with a lead-off double in the third inning in the second game of Monday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom. The Rams swept the twinbill 9-1 and 8-3 in eight innings.
With the sweep, Philadelphia continues its hot start to the season as the Rams improve to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the CACC.
Goldey-Beacom is 1-12 overall, 0-6 against the conference.
Lewis finished the day 3-for-9, including a pair of RBIs in the opener. Sophomore right fielder Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) went 4-for-5 in game one and ended up 5-for-9.
The Rams outhit the Lightning 29-11 in the two games.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless first inning, Philadelphia pushed three runs across in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Junior pitcher Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) started the inning off with a ground-rule double and scored three batters later when sophomore designated player Renee Kakareka (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) beat out an infield single. Freshman left fielder Shannon Weaver (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) doubled the lead as she came home from third on a wild pitch. Junior shortstop Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) brought in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to plate Kakareka.
Philadelphia added three more runs with two outs in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-1. Lewis had a two-run double to right center and Smith provided a RBI single to left.
A RBI double off the bat of freshman first baseman Gabrielle Brown (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and another Smith RBI single in the seventh rounded out the scoring.
Abromavage scattered six hits over the seven innings and fanned five to earn the victory (4-0). Courtney Dolson suffered the loss (1-5) as she gave up seven runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings.
Lewis, Kakareka, Abromavage, and Weaver had two hits each.
Ashley Zaccaria went 3-for-4 for the Lightning.
GAME TWO
The Rams scored five runs in the eighth inning to complete the sweep. Philadelphia loaded the bases with a Smith single, a fielder's choice that the Lightning couldn't turn into an out by senior centerfielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.), and a walk by sophomore first baseman Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area).
Junior designated player Nicole Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) put the Rams in the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Smith to the plate.
Junior left fielder Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) added an insurance run with a RBI groundout. A Kakaera RBI single and a two-run double by Martin extended the cushion to five.
Kakareka made the lead hold up as she tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth to secure the victory. She fanned six in eight innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits for her second win of the season (2-0).
Philadelphia took a 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Riabko in the first inning.
After getting a run back in the bottom of the first, the Lightning scored twice in the third in take a 3-2 advantage. Charlee King came through with the go-ahead single to score Michelle Foster.
The Rams tied the game at three in the fourth as Kakareka helped her own cause with a RBI ground out.
Martin and Riabko led the 14-hit attack with three hits each. Kakareka and freshman Meghan Loughery (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) had two hits.
Zaccaria recorded two of the Lightning's five hits.
Dolson absorbed the game two loss (1-6), allowing five runs in 2.2 innings.
Philadelphia returns home to face Wilmington (Del.) in a CACC doubleheader on Thursday, March 27 at 2:30 p.m.
