Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team was defeated by visiting Post 5-4 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Friday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
Philadelphia is now 4-9 overall and 0-3 in CACC play. Post improves to 7-9 overall, 3-2 against the conference.
After dropping the No. 2 doubles match, Philadelphia came back to earn victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to take a 2-1 lead.
The No. 3 tandem of Matthew Germani (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) and Juan David Velosa (Bogota, Columbia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) needed a tiebreak to get past Tyler Ruefenacht and Jonathyn Young. Dylan Bhaerman (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) and Chris Casamassima (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) put Philadelphia in the lead with a 9-7 win over David Narovec and Alejandro Perez in No. 1 doubles.
In singles play, Ayman Barakat (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Kharkiv Specialized English School #3) picked up the Rams' third point as he defeated Nicholas Tadros 6-2, 6-0 in a battle of No. 1s.
Velosa claimed the No. 5 match 6-4, 6-2 against Ruefenacht to put Philadelphia in the lead, 4-3.
The Eagles picked up wins from Perez at No. 3 and Peter Fanous at No. 2 to take the match.
Philadelphia heads to Bloomsburg to compete in the Bloomsburg Duals. The Rams open the event on Saturday, April 12 with matches against host Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. and Bluefield State at 7 p.m.
