LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University softball team concluded its 2014 season with a pair of losses in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Friday at Georgian Court University. The Rams fell to the host Lions 2-1 in the opener and were eliminated after a 5-1 loss to Dominican (N.Y.).

Philadelphia concludes its 2014 season with an overall record of 25-16. The 25 wins are tied for second in program history. The Rams end the season with a record of over .500 for the fifth time ever.

vs. Georgian Court
The Lions and Rams combined for 19 hits in the tournament opener, but Philadelphia's Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) and Georgian Court's Abigail Merryman kept the scoring to a minimum.

Philadelphia broke through for the game's first run in the top of the third inning thanks to a pair of All-CACC selections. Designated player Renee Karakera (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) started the frame off with a single and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and a groundout. Second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) came through with a two-out single to center to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Georgian Court looked to do serious damage with three straight singles to begin the bottom of the third. After a foul out, Taylor McDonough brought Taylor Boltersdorf home with a groundout to short to tie the game. The Lions continued to threaten as Emma Erbig was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Arbromavage got out of the jam with a big inning-ending strikeout of Meghan Sfraga.

In the fourth, the Lions' Justine Mattia started the inning off with a double and went to third on a one-out Boltersdorf single. Dara Schroeder put the Lions in the lead, 2-1, with a sacrifice fly.

Abromavage and right fielder Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) each had two hits for the Rams, who had nine in the game. Boltersdorf led the Georgian Court 10-hit attack with a 3-for-3 game.

Merryman fanned three in the complete game victory (10-6). Abromavage struck out one in a losing effort (6-3).

vs. Dominican (N.Y.)
The Chargers' Elizabeth Hogan turned in a solid performance in the elimination game as she struck out six and allowed an unearned run on two hits in seven innings.

All-CACC first team center fielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.) had both Philadelphia hits, a RBI double in the third to pull the Rams within 3-1 and a lead-off double in the sixth.

Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first on an Elontay Collins one-out double and a two-out Paige Berzak single.

Shannon Haukap extended the advantage to 3-0 with a bases-loaded walk in the second inning.

After Philadelphia got on the board, Dominican got the run in the bottom of the third back as Caitlyn Hults scored on a wild pitch.

Kimberly Ragazzo knocked in the Chargers' final run with a fourth-inning double to score Jacqueline Gonzalez, who doubled in the previous at-bat.

Lisa Bouffard for two of Dominican's eight hits.

Smith took the loss (7-7), allowing three runs on five hits in the first two innings of the game.
