Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team picked up its first win of the year with a 6-3 triumph over USciences in a non-conference match on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon.
Philadelphia is now 1-2 overall, while USciences falls to 0-3.
The Rams got off to a strong start by sweeping the three doubles matches. The No. 2 tandem of James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) and the No. 3 team of Juan Velosa (Bogota, Colombia/Gimnasio Campestre San Rafael) and Sean DiBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) recorded the first points with 8-3 wins.
In the No. 1 match, Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) and Nicolas Affolter (Freinbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Ausserschwz) rallied from 6-1 down to win seven straight games and defeat Steven Galerkin and Jake Sosonkin 8-6.
Velosa picked up Philadelphia's fourth point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Peter Micu in the No. 4 singles match. Pollard secured the match with a three-set triumph in the No. 3 match against Tajay McLeod 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
In a clash of No. 2s, Affolter was a 6-4, 6-1 winner against Galerkin.
Philadelphia heads to Chestnut Hill on Friday, Sept. 26 for a 2 p.m. match.
