Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team picked up its second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory, defeating visiting Bloomfield 8-1 in a conference match Tuesday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.
Philadelphia (7-6, 2-0 CACC) eased out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles matches. Sean DiBlasio (Livingston, Texas/Livingston) and Matthew Germani (Blackwood, N.J./Highland) got the Rams on the board with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Adam Carter and Shimarhi Shuler. In the No. 2 doubles match, Nail Rachidi (Meknes, Morocco/Emile Anouar) and Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) teamed up for an 8-3 triumph against Ville Heikkilae and Nikola Seles. Both pairs improved to 2-0 in conference play.
Nicolas Affolter (Freienbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Ausserschwz) and Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) completed the sweep, defeating Thulani Hove and Vadim Kustov 8-4 in the No. 1 match.
Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) kicked off singles action by knocking off Carter 6-0, 6-0. Rachidi improved to 4-0 in singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Shuler at No. 6 to clinch the match.
De Vera Rehberger earned his 10th win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Kustov in a battle of No. 1s. Affolter was a 6-1, 6-2 winner against Heikkilae in the No. 2 flight and moved his record to 9-4.
Vo nailed down the Rams' final point with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Seles.
Bloomfield is now 0-2 overall, 0-1 in the CACC.
Philadelphia hosts the University of the Sciences in a conference match on Thursday, March 26 at 4 p.m.
