Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – Second baseman Gianna Bliss (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Philadelphia University softball team as the Rams picked up a 4-1 game one victory in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against the University of the Sciences on Tuesday. The Devils took the second game 13-3 in five innings.

GAME ONE
Bliss came through with a two-out base hit in the home half of the first inning to drive in shortstop Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough)—who doubled two at-bats earlier—to give the Rams (8-12, 5-3 CACC) to early advantage.

USciences (5-13, 3-5 CACC) answered in the second with a Kiersten Badzgon bloop single to shallow center field that plated Jackie Keifer to knot up the game.

In the bottom of the third, Bliss delivered another clutch two-out hit, a double to left field to score two runs and put Philadelphia up 3-1. Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) added another insurance run in the sixth with a RBI triple to right center to score Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills)—who singled one at-bat earlier.

Smith turned in seven strong innings of five-hit ball, throwing 105 pitches, to earn her second win (2-2) of 2015. She fanned three batters. Cassie Lapotsky took the loss (1-6) as she surrendered four runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.

GAME TWO
After a scoreless first inning, the Devils broke through with five runs in the top of the second. Brittany Granahan opened the scoring with a leadoff home run to left. The homer was followed up RBI hits from Jenna Hohenberger, Barbie Barron, and Devon DeBellis.

USciences tacked on three more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-0. DeBeillis had a RBI double, while Kiefer added a run-producing single.

The Rams got three runs back in the bottom half of the fourth. With the bases loaded, pinch hitter Mariah Hans (Barrington, N.J./Haddon Heights) grounded out to short, but it was enough to bring Katy Sullivan (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) home from third to break the shutout. Renee Kakareka (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg), the next hitter, singled up the middle to send in Nicole Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pople and Smith to trim the deficit to 8-3.

The Devils pushed five more runs across, two coming back-to-back triples from DeBeills and Lindsay Regan, to make it a 10-run game.

Troisi had two of Philadelphia's five hits. DeBellis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Barron went 3-for-3 and scored three times for the Devils.

Nicole Ayers turned in three shutout innings to record the victory (3-2). Abromavage took the loss. She gave up five runs, three earned, in 1.1 innings.

Philadelphia heads to St. Thomas Aquinas for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 1 at 3 p.m.
