Box Score 2 BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Philadelphia University posted a 1-1 record in the Bloomsburg Duals on Saturday in the Burt Reese Tennis Center. The Rams were upended by host Bloomsburg 5-3, and bounced back with a 5-1 win over Shepherd.
Against the Huskies, the Rams (10-9) jumped out to a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 tandem of Nicolas Affolter (Freienbach, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Ausserschwz) and Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) outlasted Mike DiSanto and Jean Paul Jones 9-7. James Pollard (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) and Nail Rachidi (Meknes, Morocco/Emile Anouar) knocked off the duo of Scott Landenbach and Denis Ikejiri 8-4 in the No. 2 match.
In singles, the Huskies won four of the five singles matches that were finished. Affolter was the lone Philadelphia player to win in singles play, defeating DiSanto 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.
Philadelphia managed to take another 2-1 lead in the second match of the day against Shepherd. Pollard and Rachidi picked up the first point of the match with an 8-0 win over Louis Charette and Grant Davis in No. 2 doubles. In the No. 1 flight, Affolter and de Vera Rehberger picked up an 8-1 triumph against Connor Howard and Steve Kolumban.
Juan Velosa (Bogota, Colombia/Gimansio Campestre San Rafael) claimed Philadelphia's first singles point of the day, defeating Charette 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Howard at No. 6. Pollard clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Austin Thomas in No. 5 flight.
Philadelphia returns home to face Kutztown in a non-conference match on Monday, April 13 at 3 p.m.
