Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and struck out three for the Philadelphia University softball team in a 5-1 game one victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Felician Sunday afternoon. The Golden Falcons came back to take game two 1-0.
With the victory in game one, Philadelphia (18-24, 11-13 CACC) snapped its four game losing skid and Felician's (15-18, 11-9 CACC) five-game winning streak.
GAME ONE
After a pair of scoreless innings to open the game, Philadelphia broke through in the third inning on a Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothlls) two-single to right field that plated Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach), who singled with one away, for the game's first run.
The Rams broke the contest open with a three-run fourth inning to extend the cushion to 4-0. Philadelphia managed to load the bases with one out. Haley drew a walk to force home Erin Maher (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), who reached on a single, to push the lead to 2-0. The big hit of the frame came two at-bats later when Abromavage roped a single to left to score Shannon Weaver (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and Haley.
Philadelphia tacked on one more insurance run thanks to an Abromavage two-out double to straight away center in the sixth. Haley—who singled earlier in the inning to cap a 2-for-3 game—scored on the extra-base hit, the only one by either side.
Felician broke up the shutout one-half inning on an Amanda Lopez single.
Abromavage scattered eight hits, while recording her eighth win of the season (8-9).
The Rams managed to get nine hits off of Ashley Owens during the seven innings.
Felician—who got two hits each from Jackie Duenas and Lopez—stranded 10 runners and Philadelphia left eight on base.
GAME TWO
The nightcap was a pitching duel between Smith and Felician's Chelsea DeGuzman. Philadelphia recorded five hits, two walks, and had one batter reach after getting hit by a pitch. Felician posted four hits, one walk, and got one on base via an error.
Philadelphia managed to get at least one runner on base in every inning, but only got one as far as third base—Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) with two outs in the fourth inning.
After giving up a single to start the game, Smith retired 10 straight batters. Smith then sat down five of the next six batters—with one reaching on a throwing error—after a one-out single in the fourth.
Then in the sixth, Natalie Quintanilla produced the game's only run with an inside-the-park home run. With one out, Quintanilla hit a line drive that was tailing toward the right field line. Haley, the right fielder, laid out for the ball, but it landed just past her outstretched glove and bounced to the wall. Quintanilla circled the bases without a throw.
Gianna Bliss (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area), Burrell, Maher, Weaver, and Martin had one hit each for Philadelphia.
The Rams close out the regular season with a CACC doubleheader at Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
