Box Score 2 BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Gabrielle Brown (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) delivered a RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to give the Philadelphia University softball team a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over host Concordia (N.Y.) and a split of its final doubleheader of the season. Concordia won the opener 2-1.
Philadelphia wraps up the season at 19-25 overall and 12-14 in CACC play. Concordia is now 9-21, 8-14 against the conference.
GAME ONE
The Rams took advantage of two first-inning Clipper errors to get out to a 1-0 lead. Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) started the game by reaching on an error by Alexandra Mandarano. After a strike out, Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) sacrificed Haley to second base. Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) hit a ball through the legs of Sarah Ross to bring Haley home.
Abromavage cruised along through the first four innings, keeping Concorida off the board. However, in the fifth, Concordia was able to tie the game up with a two-out rally. Victoria Vickerman—who was 3-for-4—singled to right center field to knock in Brittany Lampert, who tripled one at bat earlier to even the score.
The score remained at one until the last of the seventh. Amanda Ramirez started it off with an infield single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a Lampert walk and Vickerman single, Ross hit a walk-off single to right to plate Ramirez and give the Clippers the win.
Hannah Rubasky threw a complete-game five hitter, including three strikeouts, to earn the win. Abromavage struck out five in 6.1 innings for the Rams.
Gianna Bliss (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) had two of the Rams' five hits.
GAME TWO
The nightcap was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when Carly Mertens doubled in Alexa Lavalle, who doubled one at bat earlier, to put the Clippers up 1-0.
After being held to only two runs through the first six innings, the Rams finally got to Ross in the seventh and tied the game at one. Katy Sullivan (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) single-handedly got herself to third base. Sullivan led off the seventh with a walk, then stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Three hitters later, Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) smacked a single into left field to bring in the tying run.
In the eighth, Smith got things started with a one-out walk. Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) moved Smith to second with a single. After a passed ball put both runners in scoring position, Brown came through the clutch single to put the Rams in front.
Smith ended the game with a 1-2-3 eighth. She struck out six batters, while scattering seven hits. Ross took the loss, walking six and fanning three.
Martin had two hits, ending her career with 170—one shy of tying the school record.
