Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILMINGTON, Del. – Freshman Naomi Stas (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) had a solid game two at the plate and in the pitching circle to carry the Philadelphia University softball team to a 3-0 victory and give the Rams a split of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday. The Lightning claimed game one, 6-1.

GAME TWO
Stas was 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and knocked in all three of Philadelphia's (4-12, 2-2 CACC) runs. In the circle, she turned in six shutout innings, fanned a career-high seven batters, and surrendered just one hit.

The Rams did all of their offensive damage in the second inning. Philadelphia loaded the bases with one out thanks to a Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic) infield single, Katy Sullivan (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) getting hit by a pitch, and Shannon Weaver (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) beating out a sacrifice bunt for a hit. After a strikeout, Stas came through in the clutch as she ripped a bases-clearing double to right-center field.

As a pitcher, Stas started out the game allowed a base runner in each of the first three innings—a first-inning single and walks in the second in third. Then, she got into a rhythm and retired eight straight hitters from third until hitting a batter with one out in the sixth.

In the seventh, Stas would give way to Stephanie Pepper (Toms River, N.J./Central Regional), who struck out the side, to record she first career save.

Kylie Doyle recorded seven strikeouts in a complete-game loss for the Lightning (3-13, 1-7 CACC)

Ryann Farley had Goldey-Beacom's lone hit.

GAME ONE
Goldey-Beacom broke the scoreless tie in the third inning on a bases-loaded fielder's choice that led to an error and allowed three runs to cross the plate. Shelby Miller hit a ground ball to third base. Monica Levins (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) fielded the ball and threw home to nail the lead runner. Erica D'Angelo (Broomall, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) attempted a relay throw to complete a double play at first, but sent her throw down the right field line to score Ryann Farly, Charlee King, and Murphy.

The game remained 3-0 until the last of the sixth, where the Lightning scored three more runs to double the advantage. King had a sacrifice fly and Alivia Schoff had a two-out single.

Pepper broke up the shutout in the seventh with a one-out single to drive in D'Angelo, who walked to start the inning.

Natalie Mickles threw a complete-game four hitter, including one strike out, to earn the win. Nicole Troisi (Norristown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) allowed three runs—just one earned—in four innings and took the loss.
