Softball Sweeps Concordia on Wednesday With Pair of 2-0 Shutouts

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (6-10, 2-2 CACC) swept the Concordia Clippers (4-6, 2-2 CACC) in a Wednesday doubleheader with a pair of 2-0 shutouts from pitchers Naomi Stas and Stephanie Pepper.

WEDNESDAY GAME ONE – W, 2-0
Naomi Stas (W, 3-4) pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts to just two hits with no walks.

Both teams were hitless until Breck Urban notched the Rams first hit in the bottom of the fourth but was stranded on base.

Stas gave up her lone two hits to Concordia in the top of the fifth but neither came around to score.

Jefferson got its break when Emily Williams hit a two-run home run to in the bottom of the sixth. Urban singled with one out, as she went 2-for-3 in the game, before Williams ripped the homer over the right field fence for the first of her career.

Stas came out in the seventh and put the Clippers down for the two-hit shutout.

WEDNESDAY GAME ONE – W, 2-0
The strong pitching effort for Jefferson continued in game two as Stephanie Pepper (W, 2-3) matched Stas with a two-hit, complete game shutout. Pepper struck out 11 Clippers in the victory while walking two. Pepper got five of her first six outs via the strikeout, which included striking out the fourth, fifth and sixth hitters in the second.

Hits and runs were again at a premium in the midweek doubleheader. Williams singled to start the bottom of the second but was left on base.

The Rams got their two runs in the fourth on a two-run double off the bat of Courtney Wensel to break open the game. Wensel went 2-for-3 in the second game as the lone multi-hit performance.
