Box Score 2 LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (11-13, 7-5 CACC) suffered two Wednesday afternoon losses at Georgian Court (20-13, 11-3 CACC) from SEI Investments Field in Lakewood, N.J.
WEDNESDAY GAME ONE – L, 2-1
Jefferson managed five hits in the game one loss to the Lions while junior Stephanie Pepper struck out eight in her 6.0 innings pitched.
The game was scoreless heading into the fifth inning after a tight pitching battle.
Jefferson broke through for the first run in the top of the fifth behind a solo home run off the bat of Pepper, the first of her season and fifth of her career.
Pepper came back out in the bottom half of the inning and shut the Lions down with a strikeout and two groundouts. But Georgian Court was able to get to Jefferson in the bottom half of the sixth behind a leadoff triple and a one-out, two-run home run from off the bat of Samantha Reilly, the most recent Louisville Slugger/NFCA DII Player of the Week honoree.
The Rams came to bat in the top of the seventh for one last shot, trailing 2-1. Pepper once again tried to help herself with a one-out single, but the Rams could not rally as they fell, 2-1.
Sophomore Breck Urban and Pepper both went 2-for-2 in the contest. Junior Kayla Henry-Caltabellotta tallied the other hit, an infield single in the third.
WEDNESDAY GAME TWO – L, 12-0 (5)
Urban managed the lone Jefferson hit in the top of the third inning in the game-two loss. Though they were almost held hitless, the Rams put runners on base with a total of five reaching in the game.
Georgian Court scored two in the first, five in the second and another five in the fourth to run-rule Jefferson.
