Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (13-13, 9-5 CACC) turned in a Saturday afternoon sweep of the Nyack Warriors (7-23, 4-12 CACC) as junior pitcher Stephanie Pepper picked up both wins for the Rams. Senior Erica D'Angelo hit home runs in both games. Jefferson won game one in a run-rule fashion, 11-0, before coming back in game two, 8-4.
SATURDAY GAME ONE – W, 11-0 (5)
Jefferson used 12 hits to score 11 runs in a run-rule win over Nyack in game one while Pepper shutout the Warriors, holding them to just one hit. The junior struck out eight of the first nine batters before a leadoff double in the fourth broke up her perfect game.
D'Angelo hit a solo home run to start the scoring in the first inning. Freshman Samantha Hurtado had an RBI groundout in the second right before a sacrifice fly from Pepper brought in another run, 3-0.
Jefferson scored six runs in the third inning to take a 9-0 advantage. Sophomore Jovanna Alfonsi walked with the bases loaded before junior Courtney Wensel hit a two-run double. With two outs and the bases loaded, sophomore Madison Heno doubled to clear the bases and put the Rams up 9-0.
Alfonsi notched another RBI on a groundout in the fourth before senior Erin Maher recorded an RBI double to finish the scoring, 11-0.
Pepper (W, 6-4) struck out nine in the game, allowing no walks and just one hit.
SATURDAY GAME TWO – W, 8-4
Nyack scored first in game two before the Rams took the lead in the bottom half of the first inning behind a sacrifice fly from sophomore Breck Urban and an RBI bunt single from Alfonsi.
Nyack tied it up in the second before taking the lead with a two-run third, 4-2.
A run came home on a fielder's choice with Maher at the plate in the third inning and sophomore Katelyn Stys brought home two more with two outs to put the Rams up, 5-4.
Wensel doubled to stretch the lead to 6-4 in the fourth. D'Angelo homered, a two-run shot, in the fifth for her second home run of the doubleheader.
Freshman Emily Bradley started and pitched the first two innings before being relieved by Pepper (W, 7-4), who tossed the final five innings with eight strikeouts to get the win.

Jefferson Softball returns to action at home on Tuesday, April 17 against Wilmington (Del.) from the on-campus softball field. The conference doubleheader starts at 2:30 p.m.
