Softball Splits Conference Road Doubleheader at USciences on Monday to Snap Winning Streak

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (11-11, 7-3 CACC) split an afternoon doubleheader at USciences (8-18, 5-7 CACC) on Monday. Jefferson won game one, 10-4, in extra innings to take their winning streak to seven games before falling in game two, 4-1.

MONDAY GAME ONE – W, 10-4 (9)
Jefferson struck first in game one with two runs in the third. Breck Urban singled home Madison Heno before Emily Williams scored Erica D'Angelo on an RBI single, 2-0.

USciences tied it up in the fifth with a two-run single.

The game went to extras tied 2-2. Erin Maher came through with an RBI single to put the Rams back on top in the top of the eighth but the Devils responded with an RBI infield hit in the bottom half of the inning.

Jefferson then erupted for seven runs in the top of the ninth behind four hits and one Devil error. With one out, D'Angelo reached on fielder's choice to score one run before Urban singled to left to score another. Williams reached on an error to bring home D'Angelo before Jovanna Alfonsi scored Urban. A single by Courtney Wensel loaded the bases for Maher who hit a sac fly before Kayla Henry-Caltabellotta recorded a two-run double to center.

Stephanie Pepper (W, 5-3) pitched all 9.0 innings with 11 strikeouts.

MONDAY GAME TWO – L, 4-1
The Rams saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end in game two as the Devils pulled out the 4-1 win.

Jefferson scored its lone run in the top of the first on an RBI single up the middle by Williams to bring home Urban.

USciences then put up four runs in the bottom of the third behind two hits and a Jefferson error to lead them to victory.

Urban and Alfonsi both had two hits in the game to lead the Rams.

Katelyn Stys (L, 0-3) started and pitched the first 3.0 innings before being relieved by Emily Bradley, who did not allow a run over her 3.0 innings of relief.
