Volleyball Locks Up Playoff Spot With Sweep of Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (19-4, 10-4 CACC) secured its 15th consecutive CACC Tournament appearance with a 3-0 sweep of host Caldwell on Sunday.
 
GAMEPLAY
It was all Cougars to start the match as Caldwell jumped out to an 11-3 lead. However, the Rams rallied for nine of the next 10 to tie the score at 12. The Cougars took over again and were ahead 20-15. Jefferson came back once more with six straight points to take a 21-20 advantage. The Rams went on to win the set 25-23.
 
In the second, Jefferson held a 4-3 lead then increased the margin to seven (10-3) with a 6-0 run. Caldwell chipped away at the deficit and eventually evened the score at 23. However, the Rams recorded three of the next four to capture the frame 26-24.
 
The Cougars tallied the first three points of the third set but Jefferson responded with six to take a 6-3 edge. Caldwell climbed back in it and had a 15-14 lead in the middle of the stanza. The Rams got hot again though, reeling off eight of nine to go ahead 22-16. The Cougars made a valiant effort to come back but Jefferson clinched the match with a 25-22 victory.

CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Rams currently sit in fourth place in the CACC South Division. Jefferson has clinched a spot in the CACC Tournament and can finish anywhere from second to fourth. The top four teams in the division qualify for the postseason with the top two hosting quarterfinal matches.
