Volleyball's Win Streak Reaches Eight With Defeat of Franklin Pierce

NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (8-0) blanked Franklin Pierce, 3-0, on Saturday to wrap up its trip to the Wildcat Regional Invitational at Wilmington (Del.). The Rams went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend and did not lose a set. Jess Molen was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the three matches.
 
GAMEPLAY
The Rams led 2-1 early but the Ravens jumped in front with five straight points. FPU held Jefferson at bay for the majority of the set thereafter and held a 20-15 advantage. The Rams then rallied for 10 of the final 11 points to stun the Ravens 25-21.
 
In the second, Franklin Pierce got out to a 6-1 advantage but Jefferson surged once again, posting the next eight points to go ahead 9-6. The Rams narrowly held the upper hand until it was 14-13. Jefferson then created distance with a 7-2 run. Four consecutive points got the Ravens within two (21-19) but the Rams came back with four of the next seven to claim the frame 25-22.
 
The two squads traded points early in the third and it was even at five. Jefferson then took control with a six-point streak to make it 11-5. Franklin Pierce only came within four the rest of the stanza as the Rams slowly pulled away. With the score 24-14, the Ravens put together one final desperation rally to get within five (24-19) but a service error gave the match to Jefferson.
