PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team (6-4-3, 5-0-3 CACC) managed the lone goal of the game to defeat Georgian Court (3-10-1, 2-6-1 CACC), 1-0, at Ravenhill Field on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions had more opportunities in the first half, recording a 9-4 advantage in shots, 3-1 in shots on goal, as well as a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. However, Rams' goalkeeper
Matteo Crescente stopped all that came his way and the game remained scoreless after 45 minutes.
Jefferson was slow to get going in the second period as well, conceding the first two shots and needing over 15 minutes to register a shot of its own. The Rams placed their first two shots on target but they were stopped by the goalie.
The third time was the charm for Jefferson as the Rams found the back of the net with their third shot of the half.
Diego Guzman had the ball on the left side of the box and passed it to
Tommy Harmon near the middle. Harmon quickly got it to
Theophilus Ijeboi who fired a dart at close range into the upper right corner for the lead in the 72
nd minute.
Just a minute after the Jefferson tally, GCU had its best chance of the contest but fired it off the crossbar. Two more shots were blocked by the Rams' defense in quick succession. The Lions sent another two shots in on Crescente over the rest of the game but the goalkeeper saved both and picked up his fourth shutout of the season.
