PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (12-6) lost a non-conference match to visiting Shippensburg (12-10) on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams scored the opening point but the Raiders came back with five of the next six to take a 5-2 lead. Shippensburg maintained the advantage until it was 15-11 then Jefferson rallied for six straight points and a 17-15 edge. The Rams were ahead 22-19 but the Raiders strung together five points to bring up set point. Jefferson fended off two set points and had one of its own at 25-24 but the visitors produced four of the last five to take the set 28-26.
In the second, the Rams got out to a 2-0 lead and stayed in front until it was 16-12. Then, Shippensburg had a 5-0 run to go ahead. The Raiders had a 22-20 advantage but Jefferson surged ahead with a 5-1 stretch to win the frame, 25-23.
The Raiders never trailed in the third after they recorded three of the first four points to go in front. They used a 9-0 spurt to pull away and went on to a 25-17 victory. Shippensburg trailed 2-1 in the fourth before taking over with five consecutive points. The Raiders held the upper hand the rest of the way and clinched the match with another 25-17 win.
