PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (8-2, 3-1 CACC) had its eight-match win streak come to an end on Wednesday night, falling to Holy Family (5-9, 3-0 CACC) by a 3-1 score at the Gallagher Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams held a 2-1 lead in the opening set when the Tigers strung together three points to go ahead 4-2. Jefferson was within one at 7-6 before Holy Family scored five of the next six to make it 12-7. The Rams were only able to get within three for the rest of the set as the Tigers went on to win 25-20.
The teams went back and forth to start the second frame until they were even at 11. HFU then tallied three in a row to take a 14-11 advantage. The Rams cut the deficit to one (15-14) but the Tigers came back with a 7-3 stretch to up the lead to five (22-17). At 23-18, Jefferson rallied for six of the next seven points to even the score at 24. However, Holy Family answered with a kill before a Rams' error gave the Tigers the set, 26-24.
In the third, Jefferson got out to a 5-1 lead. The Tigers closed the gap to one (5-4) before the Rams pulled away with a 6-1 run. The Rams went on to win the set comfortably, 25-14. The two sides traded runs in the fourth until Jefferson held a 16-14 lead. Holy Family then had an 8-1 surge to go in front 22-17. The Tigers held off the Rams and clinched the match with a 25-21 win.
