Volleyball Falls in Close Contest Against Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, Conn – Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (13-9, 10-2) would go on the road, dropping their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup as they fell to Bridgeport University (18-6, 11-1) 3-2 in Saturday evening action.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Purple Knights would get ahead in the first set 5-3 before Jefferson took five of the next six points to jump ahead 8-6. Bridgeport would get back ahead 11-9, but the Rams would take the next two and even it at 11-11. The Purple Knights went on an 8-2 run to get ahead 19-13. Jefferson would climb back to get within two, but Bridgeport would hold onto the 25-22 win in the first set.
Jefferson would get ahead in the second set 8-3 before Bridgeport would cut the lead to only one point. After trading points and having a Rams 16-14 lead, the Purple Knights would secure the next five and jump ahead 19-16, forcing a Jefferson timeout. A 6-1 turnaround would put the Rams ahead once more at 22-20, but two points in a row tied the game up. Jefferson earned three of the last four points to win the second set 25-23 and even the match up at 1-1.
The third set would be in favor of Jefferson, going up 6-3 early on. An 8-4 swing would see the Purple Knights be up 11-10, but the Rams would take six of the next seven points as they retook the lead 16-12. Boh teams would go on runs, Bridgeport with four straight points while the Rams had three in a row, eventually seeing Jefferson being up 23-18. Bridgeport came out with full confidence, earning the last seven points and roaring back to a 25-23 comeback win in the third set, going ahead 2-1 in the match.
The Rams would look to take the fourth set and force a fifth, pushing an early advantage as they were up 8-2. The Purple Knights would get close at 10-7, but four in a row for the Rams kept their lead intact. Jefferson would continue their attack, going up 21-14. Bridgeport would cut the lead to five near the end, but a last point earned by Jefferson would earn them the 25-19 win, evening the series at 2-2 and forcing a fifth set.
Jefferson would get ahead in the fifth set 5-2, but the Purple Knights would slowly come back, eventually ending the last set with a 13-4 finish as they would beat the Rams 15-9 and win the match 3-2.
