Volleyball Rebounds From Being Down, Earns 3-2 Comeback Win Against Millersville
PHILADELPHIA – Being down 9-8 in the fourth and trailing two sets to one, the Thomas Jefferson University volleyball team (15-9) stormed back in the fourth and was able to win in the fifth set, completing the 3-2 comeback non-conference victory over Millersville University in Wednesday night competition.
WHAT HAPPENED
Jefferson began the first period on a hot hand, jumping out to a 11-5 lead. After the Marauders secured a point, the Rams would finish the set quickly on a 14-3 run and take the first 25-10.
The second set would look to replicate the same momentum as the first, with Jefferson taking a 6-5 lead and adding nine of the next 11 points to jump out ahead 15-7. Millersville would begin to respond, cutting the lead to 17-12, but the Rams would eventually grab ahold of an eight point lead 21-13. The Marauders would go on an 11-3 run, being ahead 24-23. Both the Rams and Marauders would exchange points, looking to take the two-point advantage, with Millersville capitalizing on the last three points and taking the second set 29-27.
Jefferson would get ahead once more 8-2 in the third, but Millersville refused to back down, trailing 12-11 through the third. After two straight Rams points, the Marauders would earn four of their own to take the lead 15-14. Jefferson would have the next three but Millersville then went five in a row, going ahead 20-17. After each team began to trade points, Millersville eventually took the third set 25-21, heading into the fourth with momentum on their side.
The Marauders and Rams would trade the lead between each other, with Millersville going up 9-8 before Jefferson went on a 7-0 run and went ahead 15-9. After multiple exchanges, the match was at 20-16 before two more consecutive points went in favor of the Rams. Jefferson would finish the set taking three of the last five points, winning the fourth set 25-18 and forcing a fifth set.
Both the Rams and Marauders took the lead early on, tying it at 4-4 before Jefferson had a four point swing go in their favor. Millersville would get it to within two points at 10-8, but a 5-1 run to finish the fifth set lifted Jefferson to a 15-9 win and completed a 3-2 comeback.
