Women's Volleyball Goes Five Sets Against Millersville
MILLERSVILLE, PA – Thomas Jefferson University women's volleyball team (2-4) went up to Millersville University (4-1) to take on the Marauders. The Rams kept it close, but ultimately fell to Millersville 3-2 in Wednesday night non-conference action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- After Millersville was up 3-1, Jefferson went on a 12-5 run that saw Emily McKenna, Morgan Ritchie and Liz Tanis have multiple kills during that stretch
- The Marauders began to take momentum back, including six straight points, that ultimately saw the match tied at 16-16
- Both teams began to trade points, but Millersville was able to gave stretches of two points in a row that helped them win the first set 25-22
- The second set saw both teams take early leads, with Jefferson pulling ahead with five straight points and a 9-4 advantage over Millersville
- After getting the match to 13-7, the Rams and Marauders would go back and forth trading points
- Millersville had a 4-1 run that got them within four points, but Jefferson held onto their lead as they took the second set 25-19 and even the series at 1-1
- The Rams jumped out ahead in the third set, getting their lead to 17-8 with kills by Tanis, Ritchie, McKenna, Aja Smith, and Caroline Bond
- The Marauders went on an 8-1 run that gave them momentum for the rest of the set, eventually getting ahead and winning the third 25-23
- Jefferson looked to get back in the series, going ahead 11-5 with Ritchie, McKenna, and Tanis, who all had double digit kills in the series, converted on their attacks
- The Rams went up 17-9 before Millersville began to get some points back in their favor
- Jefferson refused to let their lead go, only allowing the Marauders as close as four before pulling away and taking the fourth set 25-17
- Millersville and Jefferson both looked to take the final set and earn this win, with the Marauders going up early 6-2 while the Rams propelled themselves to an 7-1 run as they took the lead
- Both teams continued to trade points, with Millersville ultimately going up 14-11 with match point in their favor
- McKenna and Ritchie each had a kill to get within one point for Jefferson, but the Marauders pulled the last point away to win 15-13 and earning the 3-2 series win
