No.17 Women's Soccer Holds Off Caldwell

PHILADELPHIA – No.17 nationally-ranked Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer (9-1-1, 5-0-1) went up in a battle of first place teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Saturday against Caldwell University. The Rams held off the Cougars to take sole possession of first place with a 3-2 victory. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

• Jefferson was on the attack in the first half, taking 15 shots compared to Caldwell's three. A pass to the middle by Isa Geoghan allowed Nikki Dedes to break the tie at the 38th minute and give Jefferson a 1-0 lead at the break 

• The Cougars responded early in the second half as they tied it up at the 47th minute. The tie didn't last long as a 25-yard shot by Kyra Lesko was good, making it a 2-1 game 

• After a long break with no score, Gianna Garozzo took a kick from Mia Ferrara and netted her shot in to have a two-goal lead over Caldwell 

• The Cougars didn't go down without a fight, hitting a goal with less than nine minutes to go. The Rams would hold on and escape the match with a 3-2 victory 

• Ariana Gaminara made nine saves for Caldwell while Carly Hayman had three in the victory
