Capuano, Powell Make PhillySIDA All-Area Team for Women's Cross Country

PHIALDELPHIA, PA – Thomas Jefferson University women's cross country saw two runners make the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team. Annalee Capuano and Hannah Powell both represent the Rams for the area recognition. Jefferson is tied with the most athletes on PhillySIDA Academic Team alongside Villanova University. Rowan University, Haverford College, Widener University, and Immaculata University all had one runner apiece.

The team was voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Nominated student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their current institution and carry at least a 3.30 GPA.

Capuano makes her first appearance on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team after helping the Rams in their historic season. She placed in the top-15 in six of the eight races this year for Jefferson. She made the top-15 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship to earn All-CACC honors for the fourth straight year and help Jefferson earn the top-7 spots in the conference championship, a first for any team in the races history, to win their 15th CACC title. Capuano went to be on the NCAA All-East Region team after racing in the East Region Championships, the third time in her career she has made this feat. Her placement helped the Rams place third in the East Region Championships and advance them to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships for the first time as a team in program history. She finishes her career as a 3x CACC Champion, 4x All-CACC runner, and 3x USTFCCA All-East Region honoree with CACC and CSC All-Academic Team recognition.

Powell joins her teammate in her first appearance on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team. She was in the top-30 in five of the eight races she participated in. Powell ran her best times when it mattered the most, with her personal 5k best being at the CACC Championships, where she got third, her best placement this season, with a 20:20.0 time to help the Rams take the top-7 spots in the race and win their 15th CACC title in program history. She followed it up with her best 6k time in the NCAA Division II East Region Cross Country Championships, running a 23:31.6 time to be placed in 26th, one spot short of All-Region honors, to get Jefferson a third place finish and advance the team to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships as a team for the first time in program history.
