Men's Basketball Falls Short Against Dominican

PHILADELPHIA – Trailing by three points with six second left in the game, Thomas Jefferson University men's basketball (9-7, 5-4) got fouled at the last shot for three free throws. After going making one in the first two attempts, a miss free throw tip-in attempt fell short of getting in the net as the Rams dropped their home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup to Dominican University of New York (8-8, 5-4) 84-82 in Saturday afternoon action.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Jefferson trailed behind in the first quarter as Dominican got ahead 48-39 after the first 20 minutes of action. Both teams made 15 shots on the floor, with Jefferson holding the advantage in the three-point shot (4-of-9 to 3-of-8), but the Chargers went to the charity stripe 19 times, converting on 15 free throws. The Rams were a perfect 5-5, trailing by nine points at the break
  • Jefferson started to get on a groove in the second half, outscoring Dominican 43-36. The Rams hit six of their 14 three point attempts while being 16-of-31 on the floor. The Chargers were 13-of-24 on the court and 1-4 for three
  • After trailing most of the second half, Jefferson got out to a 71-70 lead with 4:24 to go. Both teams began to trade baskets back-and-forth before tying it at 76-76
  • Dominican went up 82-78 with 39 seconds to go before a three pointer cut the lead down to one. After two miss free throws, Jefferson looked to end the game with the last basket, but a turnover with six seconds to go gave the Chargers two free throws that made it 84-81
  • The Rams attempt at a three pointer was stopped with less than a second to go as they were fouled beyond the line, giving them three free throws with a chance to tie the game
  • After missing the first and hitting a second, Jefferson attempted to have the last shot miss and tip it in to even the game out. The Rams had the tip go near the basket but did not fall in the net as Jefferson fell 84-82
  • Five Rams scored in double digits with Jeremiah Dorsey (20), Shane Cercone (15), Isaiah Thomas-McClain (14), Alex Bates IV (12), and Sean Fullerton (11) contributing in the game
