PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2026) – Sophomore goalkeeper
J.R. Sexton (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada / St. Mary's Kitchener) and the Thomas Jefferson University men's soccer team blanked the East Stroudsburg University Warriors over the second half of Wednesday's season opener at Ravenhill Field.
The Rams held the Warriors scoreless over the final 59 minutes of Wednesday's game, with both teams having to contend with rainy conditions usually conducive to higher scoring games. However, this stretch would be dominated by Jefferson defenders such as
Brandon Murataj (Abington, Pa. / Abington),
Miles Hood (Newark, Del. / Caravel Academy) and
Igor Hyvel (Glenside, Pa. / Springfield Montco), who collectively held East Stroudsburg without a shot on goal during the second half. Still, Sexton did well with any stoppable opportunity that came his way, finishing the game with five saves.
Jefferson also had some chances of its own, namely in the first half that could have fundamentally changed the tenor. Senior forward
Cole McEvoy (Gap, Pa. Pequea Valley / Loyola University (Md.)) led the Rams with two shots on goal, including one of the best chances of the game that came on a header that would be denied by the visiting goalkeeper in the 30th minute that would ultimately lead to an East Stroudsburg counter.
Head Coach Jason Rocha and the Rams will next travel to Southern New Hampshire University of Saturday, Sept. 5 for a 1 p.m. game. They will be on the hunt for their first win of the 2026 season.
