Sophomore Duo of Frederick, Ingram Guide Rams to Road Win

Box Score

Sophomores Malcolm Ingram and Russell Frederick scored 23 points and 20 points, respectively, leading Philadelphia University to an important 57-52 win at the University of the Sciences in men's basketball action on Tuesday night.  The triumph, the fifth straight and the 11th in 12 contests for the Rams, improves them to 17-11 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

Ingram also added ten rebounds for Head Coach Herb Magee's team, giving him a team-high 11 double-doubles on the season.  The Devils, who fall to 12-14 overall and 6-9 in the league, were paced by Keith Dundas with 17 points.

The Rams overcame a sluggish start to the contest to lead 29-22 after 20 minutes of action.  Head Coach Herb Magee's team took the lead for good in the game on a three-point field goal from senior forward Jason Hickenbottom with 6:31 remaining in the first half.  The lead grew to nine points at 26-17 on a conventional three-point play by Frederick with just under two minutes left in the opening half, but the Devils refused to die, scoring five straight points before Frederick connected on a three-pointer with just two seconds left to give the Rams some breathing room at the break.

In the second half, the Devils were held scoreless for the opening 3:48 while Philadelphia University pieced together a 6-0 run that was capped by a Frederick layup.  After Ingram handed the Rams their biggest lead of the game at 15 points, 39-24, with a jumper with just over 14 minutes left, University of the Sciences made one last run, ultimately trimming the lead to two points, 54-52, on a three-pointer by Shane Connor with 25 seconds left in regulation.  Frederick all, but sealed the game for the Rams, however, knocking down two free throws just seconds later for a 56-52 lead.  Following a Devils' turnover, Ingram hit one of two from the charity stripe to account for the final five-point margin for the Rams.

Magee's team, which is assured of a first-round home contest to open the 2008 CACC Tournament on Saturday, March 1st, will close the regular-season portion of its home slate on Saturday, February 23rd when the Rams host Caldwell College at the Gallagher Center.
